What To Do After Drug Rehab

What Not To Bring To Drug Rehab

Deciding to enter drug rehab is overwhelming enough. Trying to figure out what to bring and what not to bring can seem downright impossible. At the Crosby Clinic, we are often asked what to bring to inpatient rehab by patients that have never gone through drug treatment before. This question is quite difficult to answer. Instead, we find it easier to let patients decide what to bring by telling them what they should avoid bringing for their stay.

Do Not Bring Prohibited Items

There are certain items that are strictly prohibited from drug rehabs. For all obvious reasons, patients are not allowed to enter the facility with any illicit drugs or alcohol on them. This includes any harmful substances as well as unnecessary prescription medications.

Avoid bringing inappropriate items to rehab. Do not bring any clothing or items with inappropriate images or language on them. Do not bring any pornographic material or any type of weapons. These can all negatively impact your chances of focusing on recovery.

Finally, refrain from bringing any excessive amounts of makeup or jewelry. These items are not typically factored into a patient’s daily schedule. Instead, having this on hand increases the risk of losing them or having them stolen. Only wear appropriate jewelry, like wedding bands, and keep makeup to a minimum.

Questionable Items

Depending on a facility’s own rules, you may not be able to bring a cell phone, computer, or tablet in with you. Quite often, rehabs like to prevent individuals from making unnecessary and inappropriate contact with individuals outside of rehab.

Do not bring any cigarettes or supplemental vitamins. Facilities often incorporate nutrition into their recovery programs. Instead of relying on vitamins, patients are taught various eating habits that can increase their vitamin and nutrient levels in order to naturally boost their energy and mood.

Why Are These Items Not Recommended Or Restricted?

Individuals entering drug rehab often do so for one purpose – to achieve sobriety. These individuals need to stay focused on their sobriety, work to develop healthy habits, and learn how to deal with stressors and triggers. These items are restricted to provide the best possible chances of adequate treatment for patients.

Although electronics are prohibited, patients are often able to utilize in-facility telephones to contact their loved ones on an appropriate schedule. At the Crosby Clinic, we recognize the importance of allowing adequate family communication in order to instill positive reinforcement as patients go through this challenging process.
